Tamra Wilson, our recent winner of the Children’s Story contest, was a short story panelist at the VA Festival for the Book in March, and she is also the 2012 First Place winner of the Union County Writers Club Literary Contest for her story, "Death Traps." Congrats Tamra!

Patricia Hooper has been awarded the 2011 Lawrence Goldstein Poetry Prize. The $500 award is given annually for a poem published in Michigan Quarterly Review. Poet Albert Goldbarth served as the judge.

Richard Allen Taylor will be appearing on Cathy Smith Bowers' "Poet Laureate Hour" radio show scheduled for Sunday, March 20, 5:00-6:00 pm. Cathy, our North Carolina Poet Laureate, invites one poet a month to appear on the program to talk about and read poetry. Cathy will interview Richard and he may also read from his 2010 book, Punching Through the Egg of Space (available for purchase on line at www.mainstreetrag.com.) Please listen live, if you can, or listen later.
To listen to the show online on Sunday, folks will just need to get to www.ashevillefm.org (since it's internet radio) at showtime and click on the "stream" button. On Monday, and for the week after, they can navigate to http://www.ashevillefm.org/wordplay and click on the arrow beside "Listen" any time. After a week or two, the show will move to the ibiblio archive, where it'll be available 24/7.

Earl J. Wilcox has a poem appearing in the anthology, Relationships and Other Stuff, published in December 2010. Five of Earl's poems have appeared in The New Verse News during the past three months. The poem, "Touching All the Bases," appears in the Fall 2010 issue of Aethlon, and the poem, "Catching Baseballs and Poems," appeared in a recent issue of Nine: A Journal of Baseball History & Culture.

Diana Pinckney has won the 2010 EKPHRASIS Prize for her poem "The Kiss of Water", after The Last Supper. Ekphrasis is a journal of poems written about art. She also has poems in three 2010 anthologies, Luck, The Sound of Poets Cooking and Imagining Heaven. Diana's fourth collection of poems, Green Daughters, will be released from Lorimer Press in April 2011.

CWC member Kathy Gruhn published her first book, My Baby Compass, An Easy Program to Help Your Child Think, Speak, Move & Thrive, Birth to Two. It is the first book of a series. It is a program that allows a parent to assess if their child is meeting their developmental milestones along with activities to enhance over 275 skills. If a parent is concerned about their child's progress in the following areas-- speech, hearing, vision, physical, cognitive and social/emotional -- the reference manual provides helpful information. Willie Elizabeth Towles, who writes under the name Elizabeth Towles, recently won second place in the Family Stories contest with her story, “A Ticket to the Past.” The contest was sponsored by Bookrix.com, which is an online site for writers and readers based in Munich, Germany.
