Children's Story Contest
(for ages 8-12 years old)

2008 Children’s Fiction Contest

This year we received 15 entries for the Children’s Fiction Contest. Judge Ruth Moose of UNC Chapel Hill, who won the CWC CF Award for the first short story she ever wrote, said she enjoyed reading all of the contest entries and praised each writer for his or her dedication and perseverance.

v     Honorable mention goes to Mr. R. Trentham Roberts for “The Helium Museleum.”

v     Third place is awarded to Ms. Paula Wolff for “Earl the Pearl.” Ms. Wolff asked that I extend her appreciation to CWC for sponsoring the contest.

v     Second place goes to Mr. Al Manning for “King Wilfred of Woppingsham.” Mr. Manning was also unable to attend, but asked that I convey his thanks.

v     And the first place winner for the 2008 Children’s Fiction Contest is Ms. Carol Staton for “Cecelia’s Journey to the Sea.” Judge Moose praised this tale about an adventurous little sea turtle as a “beautifully written nature story” with a “wonderful moral.”

Congratulations Carol.
