Bridgett remembers being in fourth grade as her teacher wrote the homework assignment on the chalkboard. An essay was due the next day. She loved to read and was intrigued with the idea of writing something wonderful, yet she had no idea what to do. Sitting on her wooden chair, looking up at the board, she waited for instruction on how to write. Soon she realized that this woman would not give any instruction on how to write the essay she had assigned. The teacher had no idea how to teach writing.

Years later, at the UNC Writing Project, Bridgett learned methods of teaching writing to children. To help fellow elementary school teachers learn successful methods of teaching writing, she became a member of the school’s writing team. Bridgett’s students inspired her own compositions by their enthusiasm for writing.

After 13 years of teaching, Bridgett stayed home to raise her boys. In 2006 she began taking writing classes from Maureen Ryan Griffin. She had one piece, "The Best Gift," published online with the Charlotte Observer and has a story in the anthology, Imagining Heaven.
